Overview - Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at St. John’s Hospital offers comprehensive, innovative and advanced care blending evidence based medicine and team work for optimum patient oriented care.  It was one of the first to start heart and thoracic surgeries in the State. The Department has a vast experience in treating Cardiac (Adult and Pediatric), Thoracic, and minor vascular cases. The Department is also very experienced   in treating Accident and Trauma cases of the chest.

The Department at St. John’s has all modern amenities, including a modern OT complex, a dedicated ICU with specialized nursing, anaesthesia, perfusion staff and state of art monitoring and accessory advanced support equipment such as Transesophageal  ECHO, I.A.B.P and ECMO to provide complete post operative care . Thoracic cases have all theatre facilities, specialized thoracic anaesthesia, bronchoscopy and support from an excellent Pulmonology unit.

The centre caters to all sections of society and has a very active Medico Social Department providing ample support to poor and needy patients requiring complex cardiac or thoracic surgery.
