Overview - Paediatric Nephrology


Pediatric Nephrology care was started in 1999, with 7 beds and now one of the largest ‘stand alone’ care centers in the country. It offers a complete range of health care services that includes a 25 bed comprehensive care center which includes an intermediate treatment unit (ITU) and dialysis unit care for children with congenital and acquired renal diseases from birth through 18 years of age including diagnosis of renal disease in the fetus and counseling. The care also extends into the critical care nephrology providing acute and chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) collaborating closely with the Department of Pediatric Surgery to provide comprehensive management of children with urologic disease and renal transplantation being a leader in nurturing the next generation of specialists in pediatric nephrology, with a unique distinction of being the first center in the country, to offer DM training recognized by Medical Council of India being at the forefront of clinical and translational research in an effort to improve treatment and outcomes in pediatric patients with various kidney diseases.The Children’s Kidney Care Centre (CKCC) is a sub-unit that consists of collaborative services of Pediatric Nephrology and Pediatric Surgery.
