Introduction to the Division of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology:

The Division provides comprehensive hematology and cancer care for neonates, children and adolescents. The spectrum of patients cared for include leukemias, lymphomas, solid tumors (including neuro-oncology and bone tumors), benign hematology (rare anemias, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding disorders and thrombophilias) and stem cell transplantation. The dedicated unit comprises 15 inpatient and 15 daycare beds (for outpatient chemotherapy and blood transfusions), Out-patient clinics function three times a week.

We work closely with several departments including Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive care, Pediatric Surgery, Immunohematology, Radiotherapy, Pediatric Nephrology and Pain and Palliative care. Being part of a large teaching institution of 1300 beds allows for comprehensive multi-disciplinary care of our patients.

The Division is a leader in medical education having conducted many local and national meetings and workshops for training in Pediatric Hemato-Oncology for doctors and nurses. There are 3 full time Pediatric Hemato-Oncologists with varied areas of sub-specialty interests. There is active participation in research with several ongoing projects, and presentations and publications at National and International meetings. There is excellent collaboration with the St John’s Research Institute.
