Friday Clinical Meeting
Staying Within the Planetary Boundaries to Provide Sustainable Healthcare
As healthcare systems worldwide strive to improve patient outcomes, they must also address their environmental impact. Today, the healthcare sector contributes nearly 5% of global carbon emissions, making sustainability an essential component of responsible healthcare delivery.
Climate change, extreme weather events, air pollution, and resource depletion are placing unprecedented pressure on hospitals, healthcare professionals, and communities. Building resilient and environmentally conscious healthcare systems is no longer optional—it is a necessity.
To mark World Environment Day, the Health and Humanities Division of St. John’s Research Institute is hosting a special Friday Afternoon Meeting focused on the urgent need for sustainable healthcare practices. The session will explore how healthcare institutions can remain within planetary boundaries while continuing to provide high-quality care for present and future generations.
Participants will gain insights into planetary health, climate literacy, and innovative healthcare models that reduce environmental impact through measures such as renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, resource efficiency, and sustainable operational practices.
Join leading experts as they discuss how the principle of “First, Do No Harm” can extend beyond patient care to encompass the health of our planet.
