Job Summary:

The SPIRE-FS project aims to co-design and evaluate solar-powered postharvest loss reduction interventions (e.g., cold storages, dryers) in rural Odisha. The study uses mixed-methods to assess feasibility, cost-efficiency, and multidimensional outcomes including food loss, market dynamics, environmental impact, and nutritional implications of improved availability and consumption of nutrient-dense foods.

Salary:Rs.56,000/- p.m

Key Responsibilities:

The Nutritionist will support the evaluation of nutrition outcomes within a food systems research project, incorporating solar energy technologies to improve availability and accessibility of nutrient-dense foods.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Nutrition in Solar-Enabled Food Systems Interventions

a. Assess how solar energy-based interventions influence food availability, access, and consumption 

b. Examine pathways linking post-harvest management, market access, and food environments to dietary outcomes

 c. Contribute to evaluation of nutrition-sensitive impacts of solar interventions within local food systems 

2. Tool Development and Field Engagement

 a. Adapt and implement dietary assessment tools and survey instruments for community-based settings 

b. Provide technical guidance and training to field teams

c. Participate in periodic field visits for supervision, validation, and quality assurance of data collection 

3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

 a. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to integrate nutrition into food systems and energy-linked interventions 

b. Contribute to interpretation of findings within a food systems framework 

4. Documentation and Dissemination

a. Contribute to preparation of scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and policy briefs 

b. Support translation of findings into evidence for nutrition-sensitive and sustainable food system policies

Eligibility Criteria:

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Nutrition / Public Health Nutrition (preferred)
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree in Nutrition or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience may also be considered 
  • Prior experience working in community-based nutrition research, specifically in evaluating food systems interventions that incorporate solar energy technologies, is desirable

Experience :

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nutrition research, particularly in:

 o Dietary assessment and nutrient adequacy analysis

 o Evaluation of nutrition outcomes within food systems or related interventions

  • Experience working on community-based studies and interdisciplinary projects is preferred
  • Familiarity with interventions involving food systems and/or renewable energy (e.g., solar-based systems) will be an advantage
