Standing Strong Together on World Lupus Day

St. John's Medical College Hospital, Bangalore, Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and the Department of Medico-Social Work, organized World Lupus Day on 9th May 2026 to address the growing concerns of patients with Lupus, an autoimmune disease affecting 5 million people worldwide. The theme of the program was Bone and Muscle Health. It aimed at raising awareness about Lupus. The event witnessed the active participation of patients and doctors.  

Rev. Fr. Tony AJ, Associate Director of Finance, St. John's National Academy of Health Sciences, officially held a prayer to lay the foundation for the event. Dr Vineeta Shobha, Dr Ramya J, Dr Benzeeta Pinto, Dr Sreejitha, Mr Martin Kuriakose, Department of Medical Social Work, attended the event and presided over the event.  

 As a crucial part of the Patient Support Program, the event held a specialist Question and Answer session. Patient Stories and Peer Support, Gentle Wellness Yoga, and Nutrition and Joint Care talk also formed a significant part of the event. The program also witnessed journeys of patients suffering from Lupus. The program also held patient activities like a ramp walk to foster the patient interest and involvement.  

 Patient testimonials emphasised the significance of patience, speciality care, and immunotherapy while effectively managing Lupus in the current clinical practices. The quotes revolving around modern-day healthcare and its embedding into how the current healthcare paradigms are alleviating Lupus-induced pain offered hope to many lives grappling with the dreaded autoimmune illness.
