1. Specialized Services Available in the Department

 

The Department of Neonatology provides comprehensive care for preterm, high-risk and critically ill newborns, including:

  • Intensive and high-dependency care for preterm and high-risk newborns
  • Management of VLBW and ELBW infants
  • Advanced respiratory support including CPAP, non-invasive and mechanical ventilation including High frequency ventilation
  • Management of neonatal sepsis and serious infections
  • Management of neonatal jaundice, including phototherapy and exchange transfusion when indicated
  • Therapeutic cooling and aEEG
  • MNICU(mother newborn ICU)
  • Management of neonatal seizures and neurological conditions
  • Care of newborns with congenital anomalies and genetic conditions
  • Therapeutic Hypothermia, Neurocritical care and safe neonatal transport
  • Neonatal nutrition and feeding support
  • Human Milk Bank / donor human milk services
  • Lactation support and breastfeeding counselling
  • Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and family-centred care
  • ROP screening and follow-up
  • Neonatal follow-up and neurodevelopmental assessment
  • Early Intervention Clinic for high-risk infants
  • Family counselling, parental education and discharge planning

2. Other Patient-Related Information 

  • The Department provides specialized and family-centred care for newborns requiring intensive and high-dependency neonatal care. Parents are supported throughout the hospital stay and after discharge with guidance on feeding, breastfeeding, KMC, growth and development.
  • The follow-up and early intervention services focus on growth, feeding, neurodevelopment, developmental milestones and early identification of health or developmental concerns in high-risk infants.
  • Human Milk Bank
  • The Human Milk Bank provides safe, screened and pasteurized donor human milk for eligible newborns when mother’s own milk is unavailable or insufficient. The service also promotes breastfeeding, lactation support and human milk donation.
  • Parents attending follow-up visits are advised to bring the baby's discharge summary, investigation reports, vaccination records and previous medical documents.
  • The Department emphasizes safe, compassionate, evidence-based and family-centred neonatal care, with active parental participation in the care of every newborn.
