A Day of Courage, Care & Smiles — International Thalassemia Day 2026

The Department of Pediatric Hematology Oncology & BMT, St. John’s Medical College Hospital observed International Thalassemia Day 2026 with a heartfelt awareness program centered around the theme, “Hidden No More – Finding the Undiagnosed. Supporting the Unseen.” Held on 9 May 2026 at the Mini Auditorium, the event brought together healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, nursing teams, and children in a celebration of courage, compassion, and hope.

The program began with an invocation prayer, followed by a warm welcome address by Dr. Vandana Bharadwaj. Distinguished dignitaries inaugurated the event, setting the tone for a meaningful day dedicated to spreading awareness about thalassemia and the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive care. Insightful addresses by Dr. Fulton D’Souza and Dr. Anand Prakash highlighted advancements in paediatric care and the role of Bone Marrow Transplantation in thalassemia management.

A special highlight of the event was the honouring of thalassemia warriors whose resilience continues to inspire families and healthcare providers alike through the felicitation of:
