Breaking Myths, Building Awareness: Family Adoption Program on Menstrual Health in Huskur
St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru’s MBBS batch, 2025, conducted a Family Adoption Program for the community members of Huskur, a village located in the serene suburbs of North Bengaluru. The topic of the program was ‘Menstrual Health’ and it emphasized the significance of normal menstrual cycles whilst explaining the preclinical dangers of menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, and symptoms requiring staunch medical attention. Misconception and myths about Menstruation have always surrounded the society. These myths primarily beleaguer the population living across the Indian villages with scant or abysmal awareness about the aetiology behind menstruation and menstrual cycles. Village populace’s access to medical knowledge and clinical information remains dismal owing to several factors that may limit how they avail of proper hygiene and substantial clinical care. The program also saw an active demonstration of posters to educate the populace about the prevailing myths about menstruation. The program organised by 15 MBBS students went on to receive a proactive participation and response from the population of Huskur.
