Bengaluru, July 27, 2026: St. John’s Research Institute (SJRI) warmly welcomed its newly admitted PhD scholars at the PhD Introductory Meet 2026, held on 27 July 2026. The programme, which commenced at 11:00 AM, provided an opportunity for students to interact with faculty members, gain insights into the Institute's research culture, and embark on their doctoral journey with inspiration and encouragement.

The programme began with an inaugural address by Rev. Fr. Ajith Menezes, Associate Director, Medical College and Research Institute. Congratulating the incoming scholars, Fr. Ajith spoke about the importance of combining faith with optimism in overcoming challenges. Reflecting on the word "impossible," he highlighted its inspiring interpretation as "I am possible," encouraging students to approach research with confidence, resilience, and determination. He also emphasised the enduring values of medicine and research, urging the scholars to pursue excellence while seeking God's blessings as they begin this significant academic milestone.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Denis Xavier, Vice Dean - Research Development, Innovation & Mentorship; Head, Division of Clinical Research and Training, SJRI, congratulated the new PhD scholars and encouraged them to embrace research with integrity and purpose. Dr. Xavier spoke about the importance of identifying one's purpose while maintaining the highest standards of honesty and ethical conduct. He also stressed that intellectual curiosity remains one of the most valuable qualities in a successful research career.

The gathering was further inspired by Dr. Jyothi S. Prabhu, Vice Dean - Academic & Grants Management; Head of Division of Molecular Medicine, who encouraged the scholars to remain inquisitive, challenge assumptions, and never allow the fear of failure to limit their pursuit of knowledge. She emphasised that faith, perseverance, and an unwavering spirit of inquiry are essential qualities that contribute to academic excellence and meaningful scientific discovery.

An interactive session followed, during which faculty members and PhD scholars introduced themselves, shared interesting personal insights, and engaged in informal conversations that fostered a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere. Faculty members encouraged the students to nurture their curiosity, uphold academic integrity, and make the most of the opportunities available to them throughout their doctoral journey.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Susan Thomas, Associate Professor, Division of Mental Health & Neurosciences; marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the incoming PhD scholars at St. John’s Research Institute. The event reflected SJRI's commitment to cultivating a vibrant research environment that inspires innovation, academic excellence, and impactful scientific contributions.
