Overview - Pathology


The Department of Pathology and Microbiology was started in 1966by Prof. SN Kothare and Dr. John A Thomas. Independent 'Department of Pathology' was set upin 1968, with Dr. Thomas heading it for 21 successful years during which the department developedcontemporaryfacilities. The Department aims to provide excellence in teaching, diagnostic services, and research. The Department provides a comprehensive panel of pathology and laboratory services, including examining tissue and analysing body fluids to identify diseases and abnormalities.The well-equipped laboratory of the department strives to provide accurate and prompt diagnostic services in all facets of Pathology for which the department is well recognised.The Department has dedicated and experienced faculties with special training in different sub-specialties of Pathology.The laboratory of pathology is NABL accredited since 2006.

The Department fosters an environment conducive to the performance of high-quality research and development. The Department's facultyand trainees are involved in research activities which contributes to the scientific community, as well as within the institution

All these distinguishing elements allowsthe department to be at the forefront of education and provides aunique opportunity to conduct variety of training programs. Excellent education and training are central to the department's mission and hence conducts undergraduates, postgraduates, fellowships courses and continuing medical education courses. The training programmeprovides the students and fellows an integrated approach to all aspects of pathology, with emphasis on integrated patient care, education, and research
