Project Technical Support II - ICMR Develop Project
Posted on: 06 Apr 2026
Job Summary:
Rationale/Gaps in Existing Knowledge: Inappropriate lifestyle behaviours and medication non-adherence significantly contribute to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Existing interventions are often generic and fail to account for cultural, behavioural, and individual variability. Tailored strategies integrating real-time patient data and contextual factors are needed to improve adherence and outcomes. Emerging third-generation prescriptions that combine artificial intelligence, wearable inputs, patient outcomes, and clinical guidelines offer a promising solution. However, literature indicates that such integrated, precision-based adherence tools are not yet available in India. This represents a critical gap in implementing personalized NCD management strategies.
Novelty: We propose a culturally specific, innovative third-generation lifestyle and medication-adherence prescription for precision NCD medicine in India. This multimodal, data-driven approach is unprecedented in the Indian context.
Objectives: (1) To collect comprehensive patient data—including demographics, clinical variables, investigations, lifestyle behaviours, medication adherence, and genomic data—to develop a third-generation precision prescription for NCDs. (2) To validate the developed patient-specific prescription. (3) To estimate cost and assess adaptability and acceptability for planning a robust, adequately powered multicentre trial.
Methods: Cross-sectional data will be gathered prospectively (n=1,000), retrospectively from hospital records (n=10,000), and from purchased datasets (n=100,000). Stratified wearable-derived data (n=100; ages 18–60 years; both genders; varied NCDs, severity, comorbidities, socioeconomic strata, activity levels, and dietary practices) will enhance precision. Advanced algorithms will generate prescriptions, which will be validated in participants (n=100) and evaluated for cost, adaptability, and acceptability.
Expected Outcome: The study will produce a culturally relevant third-generation prescription that bridges clinical guidelines with real-world implementation, laying the foundation for precision NCD medicine in India.
Salary : 26,000/- P.M, , 5% increase in 3rd year
Key Responsibilities:
Year 1 (12 months): Will play a role in establishing contact with physicians of the two sites. Involved in recruitment of the participants from the two sites, up to date data entry into Redcap, coordinating with the clinician and the project supervisor, arrange for biweekly meetings.
Year 2 (12 months): Recruitment of participants, collecting detailed prospective data from 2000 participants (socio demographic and personal history, clinical and investigation data, physical activity and diet), collecting anthropometry data of all 2000 participants, administering 3 day 24 hour dietary recall and food frequency questionnaires and also physical activity questionnaire in all 20000 participants, handing the wearable's and collecting wearable data from 100 participants daily, and collecting blood samples for genetic testing in 100 participants, collecting blood samples for those who do not have and getting reports of all the participants. They will also start the pilot RCT, put the randomization process and generate codes, coordinate with the clinician and the project supervisor and recruit participants in both arms, collect baseline data, see that the prescriptions are being generated, plan interim visits, coordinate with the treating physician, up to date data entry into RedCap. Give doctor and patients feedback to the multidisciplinary team to help in refinement of the prescription.
Year 3 (12 months): Conduct and finish pilot RCT, put the randomization in process and generate codes, coordinate with the clinician and the project supervisor and recruit participants in both arms, collect baseline data, see that the prescriptions are being generated, plan interim visits, coordinate with the treating physician, up to date data entry into RedCap. Give doctor and patients feedback to the multidisciplinary team to help in refinement of the prescription. Help with data analysis, double data entry, data quality checks. Help organize qualitative surveys in 50 patients/doctors/policy makers, simple cost analysis.
