Human placental epigenetic regulation of fatty acids versus glucose transport: Role in fetal growth restriction
Project Description
The aim of this project is to understand the epigenetic mechanisms linking maternal fat and carbohydrate intake with placental transport of fatty acids versus glucose in the context of fetal growth restriction.
The following questions are being addressed:
> What are the epigenetic mediators of placental lipid versus glucose transport in the human placenta?
> Can epigenetic modulation of placental lipid and glucose transporters alter transplacental fuel supply in vitro?
Mechanistic insights into the relation between maternal dietary perturbations and adverse pregnancy outcome is likely to prove crucial for designing population-specific preventive nutritional intervention strategies for improving birth outcome.
