Mortuary Services

St. John’s Medical College Hospital provides mortuary services for the mortal remains of deceased persons until they are taken for further rituals. At a time, 12 bodies can be accommodated in the vaults of the mortuary. The bodies are preserved under appropriate cold-room conditions and can be stored for up to 48 hours.

In addition to provision for holding the mortal remains, embalming services are available for long-term preservation of the mortal remains beyond 48 hours, or in order to prepare them for long-distance transport. For families that wish to have the mortal remains prepared for final rituals, the mortuary also provides facilities for draping the remains appropriately.

Medicolegal post-mortem examinations are also carried out on referral from the jurisdictional police officer.
