Overview - Pulmonary Medicine


The Department of Pulmonary Medicine was established in the year 2000 under the leadership of Prof. George D’Souza. Limited to a single faculty member at inception, the department has currently expanded to include 6 faculty, 3 respiratory technicians and 11 senior residents.

The department was initially offering Respiratory medicine training under the National Board of Examinations – DNB till 2011. Since 2012, we have a DM Pulmonary Medicine program and were one of the first few centres in India to offer this super-speciality training. This program is currently being offered only in 11 centres in India. The department also has an 8 bedded dedicated Respiratory ICU. We also offer a BSc degree in respiratory and sleep technology.

High quality outpatient and inpatient services for patients with respiratory ailments is provided with state-of-the- art diagnostic facilities. The department has bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonology services with sleep laboratory for sleep disorders.
